MOHAMMED LUQMAN ALI KHAN
Luqman is a UAE-based motoring historian & journalist, a member of the Society of Automotive Historians (USA), the Guild of Motoring Writers (UK) and Curatorial Director of ‘Classics Gallery’ at the Geneva International Motor Show Qatar. He is the founder & CEO of ‘ML Consulting’ a business specialising in concours events and collector cars. He is also the founding Chairman of Emirates Concours d’Elegance, envisaged to develop into a worldclass annual concours based in UAE. He has authored ‘Automobiles of the Nizams’ and has contributed to several leading websites and publications including that of RREC. He has also written for official books published to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Majesty King Charles III. Luqman has called the UAE home for almost 15 years now.
Rolls-Royce cars in his life include, chassis ‘61CW’ a 1920 Silver Ghost torpedo tourer by Barker which was owned by his ancestor. He grew up watching its framed black & white photo hung on a wall which triggered his love for the Rolls-Royce brand. In 2018, in the ‘Year of Zayed’ Luqman discovered and acquired in Austria the famous long-lost ‘Sheikh Zayed’s Rolls-Royce’, chassis ‘5VE15’ a 1965 Phantom V Seven-Passenger Enclosed Limousine by H. J, Mulliner Park Ward which was delivered new to the Ruler of Abu Dhabi after it was exhbited at the 1965 London Motor Show at Earl’s Court. It was the first-ever Rolls-Royce imported in Abu Dhabi and was used new by the then Ruler His Highness Sheikh Shakbut Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The iconic Phantom was subsequently used by the next Ruler of Abu Dhabi and founding father of UAE His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and witnessed the most historic moments & events during and after the formation of UAE. He also discovered in Portugal the Silver Spirit of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the former President of UAE. Luqman also owned chassis ‘WOF46’ a 1952 Silver Wraith Seven-Passenger Enclosed Limousine by Park Ward which was the first-ever Rolls-Royce bought by Qatar’s ruling Al Thani family and the first-ever Rolls-Royce imported into Qatar.
